Adelaide Hills Food
The secret to the Adelaide Hills success as a food region lies in its fresh produce. Fresh fruit and vegetables, cheeses, olives, jams, chutneys, confectionary and smallgoods are all produced in the Hills, and region’s foods and delicious flavours have secured a loyal following among food lovers Australia-wide.

Several major food businesses have prospered in the Hills – think Beerenberg, Johnston Cordials, Millie’s Bakery Cafes, Springs Salmon and Woodside Cheesewrights – while, more recently, boutique food producers like Baylies of Strathalbyn, Bird in Hand, Cocolat, Udder Delights and Willabrand have spearheaded the development of a dramatic gourmet food sector.

Wine and Food
With good wine comes great food, and there's certainly no shortage of either in the Adelaide Hills. Australia's premier cool climate wine region, the Adelaide Hills is known around the world for its quality wines. The steep hillsides and valleys of the region are lined with vineyards, orchards and market gardens, and its towns are home to some of Australia's most innovative food producers and restaurants.

Dining Out
From fine dining to a casual meal with friends, the Adelaide Hills has a vibrant food scene that caters for all tastes and budgets.

Standouts include Bridgewater Mill - winner of best restaurant in a winery in South Australia for three years running; Mount Lofty House - a boutique hotel with a strong focus on regional produce; The Summit - which boasts the best views in Adelaide and Maximilian's - a European-style farmhouse restaurant surrounded by vineyards. At Kanmantoo, Osteria Sanso does authentic Tuscan cuisine, while Bistro 49 and Rennies in Stirling have excellent wine lists.

The Adelaide Hills has a strong pub culture. The Stanley Bridge Hotel at Verdun has Mediterranean style food, while the Scenic Hotel at Norton Summit offers contemporary food and verandah dining. The Aldgate Pump, Stirling, Uraidla and Oakbank hotels are all good options, as is the Three Brothers Arms in Macclesfield. In Hahndorf try the German Arms; the Hahndorf Inn or the Old Mill - all great options for families.
